Max 999 – Glass Elephant
“Max 999″ takes you to Brooklyn today. Please welcome “Glass Elephant” and read what they have to tell us in less than thousand characters.
Now that it’s December one can hardly set foot on social media without being barraged by ‘Best Album of the Year’ discussions. One would assume, with instant musical gratification at one’s fingertips, that in 2012 the art of constructing a cohesive record would have gone the way of the 8-track. Records usually clock-in around 45 minutes because it’s a length of time that’s long enough to take us on a journey, yet short enough not to bore us. There’s a reason why a class-period, a meal, or an album all run approximately the same amount of time. Not unlike a vignette within a painting by Hieronymus Bosch, each song on a great record is only one character within a larger landscape. Atlantic (our debut record) is set to be released shortly. It’s meant to be listened to the old-fashioned way, as a whole, because we created it that way. There are underlying themes and recurring imagery that is intended to transport the listener to a specific place and evoke a definitive set of emotions. Considering how easy it is to obtain a single track on the internet these days it’s reassuring that some listeners still value the medium of ‘the record’. Here’s to hoping that the LP never dies.
