Antibalas – Dirty Money

You can’t write about New Yorks Afrobeat Orchestra Antibalas without starting with Fela Kuti – still the only overpowering pop superstar of Africa. Regarding his musical influence especially on the African-American pop culture he is only comparable to Bob Marley and James Brown. And the Afrobeat and Fela Kuti Renaisssance is already in full swing – not least, we due it to Antibalas who started reviving Afrobeat back in 1998!
The group even played as the backing band for the Jay-Z / Will Smith produced broadway show “Fela!” about Fela Kutis music and life and played with several of Fela Kuti’s Afrika 70 and Egypt 80 bands, including Tony Allen and his sons Femi Kuti and Seun Kuti.

Now Antibalas is back with their brand new self titled album and a muppets video to “Dirty Money”! So even if you didn’t already hear through all 50+ Fela Kuti albums… get your afro dancing shoes on now!
