Grovesnor – Soft Return

First of all I thought this guy is Manfred Mann’s younger brother with his beard and glasses although his record company describes Grovesnor as “the troubadour who looks ‘like a teacher but sings like Usher’.” Well, I don’t know if this description pleases Grovesnor much more …
You might already have heard his name due to his appearance in Flight Facilities’ “With you” and if you’re wondering to whom this gorgeous voice belongs, here is the answer: Grovesnor is Rob Smoughton, drummer for Hot Chip and student of the old school who loves a good tune and a crisp rhythm. “I always try to write songs with strong melody and harmony, and with an underlying narrative, but I also own a pair of dancing shoes and love to boogie. ”
If you’re into Hall & Oates, Billy Joel, Steely Dan’s “Aja” and are listening to Christopher Cross secretly, when you’re alone in your car riding along the endless Autobahn, you definitely should give a try to his album “Soft return”. Even though it sometimes gets a little bit too soft and slighty cheesy according to my taste, “Soft return” is an album you certainly shouldn’t miss!
“Taxi to the airport”, “Dan” and “No doubt about it” are songs for eternity which should make it any easy decision to spend some bucks for this record!

Um … No mention of the monster Nightmoves?
Sure, “Nightmoves” is also a nice track but I prefer “Taxi to the airport”, “Dan” and “No doubt about it”.
Cheers!
